In our 49 years of trading we’ve learnt a thing or two about automatic transmissions. We are one of the premier reconditioning and rebuilding specialists for automatics in New Zealand, and we strive to uphold a world class quality on all our services. 

For each type of automatic transmission we have developed a list of “must replace” components to ensure long-life and trouble-free motoring.  Only when a transmission has been through our strict series of processes, worn parts replaced, and our quality checks done, are we happy to put our name to it. 

Once fitted back into your vehicle, we place the transmission through a series of performance assessments and test-drives before the vehicle is finally checked and signed off by your specialist technician.

Manual Transmissions

As the name would suggest, The Gearbox Factory excels in gearbox repair and service of all kinds. Whether your light truck needs a full gearbox rebuild or your VW Golf needs a bearing replaced, we are able to handle any job.

The most common problems we see with manual gearboxes are noises, synchromesh issues and jumping out of gear. The soundest advice we can offer if you think you may have a fault in your gearbox or transmission is to get it checked by professionals early.

A gearbox with noisy bearings, for example, is a relatively simple repair if found in the early stages, but left unchecked can completely destroy a gearbox over time; resulting in a vastly more expensive and time consuming job.

We have dedicated manual gearbox rebuilders on site, and their specialisation enables a quick turnaround. They have been trained extensively in manual gearbox refurbishment, and their expert knowledge and experience benefits any task, no matter how large or small.
