skilled technicians for every make and model, The Gearbox
Factory offers you more than just a transmission rebuild
or service.
During this time, we have rebuilt, repaired and serviced hundreds
of thousands of automatic and manual transmissions, differential
units and 4WD units. We are one of New Zealand's largest and most
knowledgeable automotive specialists and are a preferred supplier
to the insurance industry and many workshops throughout the country.

you decide to have us repair or service your transmission or gearbox,
we take the responsibility seriously. We know the costs can be significant
and your vehicle is important to you. At The Gearbox Factory, one
of our dedicated job coordinators will be assigned to look after
your vehicle from start to finish. They will ensure that work progresses
without unnecessary delays and that all our quality standards are
met. They know it can be a stressful time and will do their utmost
to get your vehicle back to you as soon as possible without sacrificing
quality.
Our
technicians and workshop staff are some of the best in New Zealand
and they work with a lot of pride. They know the responsibility
that goes with working at The Gearbox Factory and they work closely
with your job coordinator to bring you the optimum transmission repair.
Due to the complexity and technical aspects of modern transmissions,
our technicians are trained internally or carefully selected and
they must reach our standards before working unsupervised. Because
of our size, we also have various specialists in-house with the
resources and knowledge to do the job on any vehicle. It doesn't
matter if you own a Japanese or European vehicle; we've done it.

is to you; after all, we are drivers as well and know the inconvenience
of having no transport. With this in mind, we will endeavour to
get your vehicle mobile again as soon as possible but we won't
take shortcuts as this inevitably leads to problems later on. We
let others go down this path.
Expect us to discuss your
vehicle with you so we can get a better understanding of your
requirements and can offer the best solution for you. We
take into consideration the vehicle type, its value and its intended
use. This allows us to fine-tune your repair to match your vehicle
and your budget. For example, if you do a lot of towing we may
recommend upgraded components, or if the value of the car is low
we may be able to offer a used import unit ex Japan.
During a typical repair we will talk to you at
various stages as a normal part of our procedures. We are happy to
talk to you at any time if you have any questions.
Initial Consultation
We will make an assessment of your transmission
and indicate what the problem is, possible solutions and a cost estimate.
We will talk you through the repair procedure and some possible options.
Quotation
If the transmission requires rebuilding, we will
disassemble it and carefully inspect all the components. We will
let you know the exact fault and the cost to rectify before proceeding
further and give you a fully itemised quotation.
On Completion Of Job
We like to let our customers know how they can
get the best from their transmission and will offer advice and tips
on completion of the work. We also have printed information about
this so you can read at your own leisure and keep in your glovebox
