Fanga Dan

fang1-802Since 2013 we have been working with Daniel 'Fanga Dan' Woodhouse, internationally renowned drift car driver. Whangarei born Dan is a two time D1NZ champion, winning his first title in just his second year of competition. He has gone on to represent New Zealand in the Formula Drift Asia and Goodyear International Drift series, claiming wins and podium finishes in both. Naturally performance drifting in competitive environments requires a serious machine capable of handling itself on the track, and we made sure to hook Dan up with a transmission appropriate for his needs.

Dan's 2010 Holden Commodore VE is just the right tool for the job, boasting a 6000cc V8 Chevy LS3 engine and direct twin-plate clutch. We equipped Dan's Commodore with a top of the line Tremec TKO-600, and an additional specialist conversion for 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. By converting 2nd, 3rd and 4th to "dog engagement", the commodore has significantly quicker shifting particularly at the high RPM so often used in performance drifting. A "dogbox" like this requires high maintenance and regular inspection, meaning it's only suitable for track use. Performance and racing jobs like this are The Gearbox Factory's passion with a long history of motorsport in our blood. We were all too happy to customise the Tremec TKO-600 for Dan's Commodore, and wish him the best of success in his upcoming events.
