Paul Manuell - NZ V8's Holden

Paul Manuell is one of the original NZ V8 competitors and won the series in 2000. Since then he has finished near the top every season. Paul prepares his own vehicle in his professional workshop as well as building race cars for others, and specialises in modifying Holdens.

Croydon Wholesale Racing Toyota Supra Drag Car

The Toyota Supra of Graham McDonald is no ordinary Supra. Although the car is still fully street-legal, it covers the ¼ mile in 10.52 seconds and produces 650hp.

We built Graham a highly modified W58 gearbox to achieve this. This utilised custom-made gears and shafts amongst other things. We built him a spare as well, but this wasn't needed as the original has lasted two seasons without a problem, and is a good testament to our quality and workmanship.

For the upcoming season however the engine is likely to be nearer the 1000hp mark with some modifications currently underway. To handle the extra power we have prepared a highly modified TH400 auto transmission. This box has been converted to a manual shift and fitted with a trans brake and a 3000rpm stall converter. Sub 10 seconds are not far away. The good news is that the car is totally drivable so you will still see Graham driving to and from the drag races, obviously not in the manor above. www.croydons.co.nz

Metalman Ford Escort

Clarke Procter and his co-driver Tony Callaghan take second place in the 2009 Dunlop NZ Targa – Modern Class division.

The original 1973 escort has been highly modified and in the skilled hands of Clark and his team is able to beat many late model race vehicles. This is thanks to a high powered Nissan turbo engine mated to a gearbox specially prepared by The Gearbox Factory. The modifications and careful preparation of the gearbox have enabled many hours of trouble free racing under extreme conditions.

Currently under construction at The Gearbox Factory is a replica of the Cobra Daytona Coupe that was spawned from the famous two-seater Cobra sports car. In an attempt to achieve greater aerodynamic efficiency, the body was redesigned from scratch but utilised the Cobra's chassis and running gear. The result was greater speeds and arguably one of the most beautiful sports coupes ever to be built and raced. Only a few were ever made so a replica is the only choice if you haven't got several million dollars for an original.
