Sponsorship

The Gearbox Factory takes an active and keen interest in Motorsport, particularly the classics, with a bit of drifting thrown in...

Shane Wigston - Holden Monaro HQ

The Gearbox Factory has supported Shane for over 10 years now and his latest HQ uses an American Nascar V8, producing over 750HP.  The car is constantly being developed and this season sees even bigger breaks, more horse power, and different livery.  The gearbox is a deritive of the T10, being an external shifted 4 speed dog engagement gearbox.  Although requiring constant maintenance both Clarke Hopkins, and Shane, show that you don’t have to be hard on gear, to go fast.

Shane is always a crowd favourite and is often seen going sideways, where he shouldn’t be. The gearbox that he has in his Monaro is a Jerico 4 Speed Dog Box and it is serviced after every third meeting.

CLARKE HOPKINS HOLDEN TORANA 1977 SS-69

Clarke Hopkins – Holden Torana 1977 SS

Clarke’s Holden Torana is an amazing car, beautifully prepared and always immaculate.  A credit to both his team and himself.  This is the third season that he has raced this car and he always draws a large crowd.

The Gearbox Factory team have had the pleasure of working with Clarke for nearly 10 years now. We have looked after the Tex 101, which is a very robust version of the Super T10,  since 2009.

Clark Procter – MK1 Ford Escort

Clark and his MK1 Escort have been around a long time and the car has been developed into the weapon it is today.  His car currently runs a 600HP V6 Nissan Turbo and a PAR  Dog Box conversion of the Nissan 300ZX.  Clark and his Escort have amassed a large following over the years, and he never fails to impress.

The Gearbox Factory have a very long association with Clark and have looked after ‘various cars” for him, since 1994.

NZV8 Utes 2012 Season (2)-714

V8  Ute Series 2015 (Previously UDC V8 Series)

The Ute’s, both Holden and Ford, are evenly matched and provide fast close racing.  The Utes all use a 6 speed T56 gearbox.  Despite being a standard box, it handles the rigors of racing well, with synchronizers and hubs being the items most needing attention.

The V8 Ute series, up until this season, when the V8 Ute series aligned themselves with their Australian cousins, The Gearbox Factory was the only approved repairer for the venerable T56 gearbox.  The same gearbox found in Holden and Ford road cars.  This has enabled Gearbox Factory to amass a wealth of experience and knowledge on this model of gearbox.

Fanga Dan – Holden Commodore Drift Car

Fanga is one of New Zealand’s top drift exponents and two times D1 New Zealand champion.  His current VE Commodore is running a Tremek TKO600 that we have converted to a Dog Box configuration.  The Dog engagement helps shifting at higher RPM, particularly on the down shift were convention synchros can sometimes baulk, and slow up a shift.

COBRA DAYTONA RACING AT HAMPTON DOWNS-309

The Gearbox Factory East Tamaki’s Cobra Daytona

The Gearbox Factory East Tamaki’s owner, Keith Lane, has finished his Daytona project and has been out racing it for some years now.  The heart of the replica Daytona is a 302ci inch four-bolt Ford Racing Boss block that Keith and fellow Gearbox Factory East Tamaki  team member, Steve Hamilton, strokes to 347 cubes. It has ported Trick Flow heads, and a Paxton supercharger. At just 6psi boost it develops 680HP. Naturally Keith has used the Daytona to showcase one of the Gearbox Factory’s Tremec TKO600 five-speed allow cased manual gearboxes.  Chris Hogg, also part of the Gearbox Factory East Tamaki’s team, fitted revised ratios, and a McLeod twin-plate clutch.

The Famous Five - Tremec Gearboxes

The Gearbox Factory East and West are offering a range of new Tremec TKO500 and TKO600 five-speed manual gearboxes. Ideal for street and/or race applications, these strong and durable performance gearboxes have a performance-orientated 0.83: 1 fifth gear ratio; most other five-speeds have a 0.62:1.

“That fifth gear is still a power gear” says The Gearbox Factory East Tamaki director and
manual box expert, Keith Lane. “They also have the added advantage of brass synchro rings,
which makes for an ideal road/race/targa gearbox”.

Demand has been high for these five-speed Tremecs, so please contact Keith today to avoid disappointment.

Performance Race Cars

Over 3 decades The Gearbox Factory has sponsored, serviced and supported a large range of performance race cars. From ordinary New Zealander’s just getting out on the race track, for pure enjoyment, to the die hard professional, who actually makes money racing cars, we have seen and looked after them all.

At The Gearbox Factory East Tamaki they have had the same performance sales staff working for two decades now – about to hit their third. Also Keith Lane, Owner, has built two Cobras himself, and has raced them both on the club circuit successfully – well he hasn’t blown up a gearbox, and has enjoyed the racing so that’s showing success!

Here’s a historical slideshow of a few of the cars that we have looked after...
